Garand

La voix des prairies is a great publication. I read some stuff today about the early ancestors who came to the Ville Platte area.

Glenda Benard Mitchell

Mitchell wrote about Marcellin Garand. Garand was in Napoleon's army when he tried to take on Russia but got his butt frozen instead. Garand suffered too and had bad eyesight when he came over to Louisiana. He supposedly told stories to travellers who stopped at his tavern. His stories were about the wars and frozen Russia.

His grave inscription in the old cemetery reads:
"Marcellin Garand -adjutant major-sous L'Empire Francais -Ne en Savoie en 1781- Decede le 4 Juin 1852."

Cool stuff. If I win the powerball I'm going to get someone to make movie about that. Everyone in Evangeline will get a part in the movie. Man, it'll be fun.

I'll never win that bete powerball so the movie won't be made.

But read about it.
