Holly Beach and other things

Mom and Dad looked at old family photos and talked about them.  I sat back and watched it all.  Matt again made these shows.  My Dad said he learned English when he went to school.  Growing up, it was just French.  Mom said Maw Maw and Paw Paw spoke mainly in French but knew some English so she knew some when she started school.  Dad told me Jimmy Newman's Dad would come to the house and read old French books Pepere had, Dad was a boy. Dad said that before schools officially started, there were schools but French teachers would teach the kids.  He said my great pepere, Hypolite, could read French and so did other people.  Then, for whatever reason, people didn't learn how to read French but learned English.  But they still spoke French. Like Mom said, she didn't "learn" French growing up, that was the talk.   She and Dad learned English when they went to school.
