Things are pretty much back to normal. But it’s the first of the month, many people
got money again, it’s the Labor Day weekend and some football is on TV. Plus there are some trail rides going
on. What does that mean for me? Beaucoup biere. A lot of beer was bought in Ville Platte and
Eunice and that’s keeping me busy. I’ve
been listening to a lot of Nathan Abshire while roaming the chemin and looking
for lyrics to his music. It is an easy
way to learn French if you’re out and about a lot. Pop a CD in, listen, learn how to say the
words and learn how to write more French words.
My old padna from Karelia told me listening to rock groups such as AC/DC
and looking at the lyrics helped him with his English before he came to
Natchitoches (Nacatraz he jokingly called NSU when he was homesick for
Russia and his wife). Nathan Abshire, to me, from
what I’ve read about him was sorta like the Cajun version of Bon Scott of the
old AC/DC. They both had a great sense
of humor, influenced by blues music, drank a lot and had a talent for
lyrics. I’ve been looking at Amanda
Lafleur’s LSU site. You will learn a lot
just from that place but I gotta admit that I get sleepy there. It’s more fun to listen to Abshire ‘illon ‘illon
about his ‘ol lady staying out all night doing God knows what (Pine Grove
Blues). That makes me think… is it ‘illon
‘illon or “yan yan” to use in that context.
“That ‘illon ‘illon is ten times crazier than that couillon because he “yan
yans” all the time." Now I’m not
sure. I’ll have to ask.
