There are a lot of Fontenot connections on Mom’s side. At first Dad thought there were 15 and now it
looks close to 18. It should be obvious
why I’m interested in Fort Toulouse and all those people who were there.
I went to the Alexandria library the other day and checked
out Robert C. West’s An Atlas of Louisiana Surnames of French and Spanish
Origin. I browsed through it before and
I like to go through it and read up on it.
It’s perfect for getting the gist of where some of the most common
surnames originated. I learn stuff all the time. I read how the Chauvins were one of the earliest
people on the Gulf Coast. Places like
Biloxi and Mobile have a lot to do with Louisiana Creole culture.
I’ll post as I go because there are too many.
