Ville Platte Creoles

"Married soldier Joseph Fonteneau "Bel Aire" and had 7 children."

I like this site:Fort Toulouse 1755 Personalities  In case the site goes down or changes, which is why I don't put a lot of links, Google those keywords.  On this site you see a lot of names like Fontenot, LaFleur and Brignac.  It's all about the French soldiers in Alabama.  Many, of course, are our ancestors.  It has nicknames, such as, "Joli Coeur."  Is this fictional?  Are these real short biographies of real people or were they created for the re-enactors at the site? Good stuff either way.  I remember visiting Paw Paw and Maw Maw (Mon Mon sp?) at the nursing home in Pine Prairie.  They had other people visiting them also.  We sat outside and the talk drifted to Fontenots.  Paw Paw Elbay was a Fontenot.  His cousin casually remarked that the Fontenots came from Canada.  Someone said yes and the talk drifted on to more everyday topics.  I didn't say anything.  Many people get bored with history.  However, both those old men, WWII veterans, might have been interested in the fact that the Fontenots were French Marines.  They might have taken a trip to Alabama to see the place.
