Dad did a lot of genealogy on our family. He did this much on his own but also learned more from other people. Our family history is similar to others in Evangeline Parish. I'm sure Avoyelles Parish would look similar. I have no African ancestry but that's an important group for.... "Cajun" culture in Evangeline Parish. If I had but one, just one, African ancestor, I would be then Creole. Native American ancestry doesn't kick you out of the white club. Look at all the white people saying they have Cherokee in them, somewhere in the family line. No proof or anything but said. It's a weird social thing but you see that often. And it's always Cherokee. Nothing wrong with Cherokee, but why only them? I'm drifting off subject. Anyway, being "white" allows me into the Cajun club.
Our Native American ancestors were simply documented, in French, as "baptized Savage" when they married the French guys. So we don't know.
OK, back on point, here we go with Cajun logic based on our personal but reflective Evangeline Parish ancestry.

Acadian!
Hot damn no, now you talking! These people are the only ones you need to talk and think about! Everybody loves my Acadian ancestors. God help me, every Louisiana book I read talks about them and only them. That's why we get down at the store, eat boudin, eat gumbo, talk like dat and dis when we talk fast fast and why the older people talk French. Yep. That's it.
French
Fontenot, Guillory, Ardoin, Deshotels, Morein, Fusilier, Bordelon, Lemoine, Brignac, Vidrine, Soileau, Landreneau,LaFleur the list goes on ................ Forget all them French non Acadian people. Mais yeah, dat's Cajun logic. Those people couldn't even talk French before the three Acadians showed up.
