Hebert and Guillory

I wonder why I lean towards Creole more than Cajun. I'm not talking about culture but what it's called. I do have Acadian ancestors and wonder if I would more readily call myself Cajun had my surname been Aucoin, Brasseaux, Prejean, Pitre, and all of my other ancestry been the same, which was mainly French Creole.

I can understand my Dad because he has no Acadian ancestry and I can understand my Mom because she does. Yes, Acadian Creoles did come to the Evangeline area and influenced the culture. But the majority French Creoles influenced the Acadian Creoles who came here and married into the majority French Creole society.

The culture would be the same even if my surname would be one of my Acadian Creole ancestors. I'm just as Guillory as I am Hebert. Just as Berzas as I am Guillory. Just as Aucoin as I am Ortego. etc etc. It's not like the few Acadian Creoles who came here lived by themselves somewhere - Same with the French Creoles.

Everyone put something into the pot to make Evangeline Parish what it is today. However, the Acadian Creoles did not put everything or even the majority of the ingredients in. Houma, yeah, but not Ville Platte.
