peekapawk

Man, it’s been “peekapawk” for me lately. A lot of work. No time to blog. No time to practice French. Anyway, I still don’t know exactly how to spell “so-so” but it sounds like “peekapawk.” “Hey neg, ca va?” “Mais, mon je “peekapawk.” I also don’t know what it means literally, either. Is it just sounds? Discussions on the L’Anse Grise forum and from my Mom and family said “pick a pock” was said to describe fighting. So, I still don’t know what it means or even how to spell it. But I’m too tired to care right now. I know how to say it. That’s fine for right now.

Too much work. And it’s all in English. Even in a Cajun Heartland parish where many people still speak French - 90% of what I hear is English. And when I finish work I want to drink a cold beer and not study for hours. If Louisiana really wants to preserve French they’ll have to make it mandatory to speak and write it. Man, people got to work and don’t have time to study. The new French speakers will be the CODOFIL type intellectuals, musicians, etc and not the “blue collar” Cajuns. Cajun English at best and maybe some phrases but not enough to carry on a conversation and damn sure not able to write it.
