Anyway, I watched a great movie yesterday: Huit Piastres Et Demie! I watched it with Mom. She understood what was being said. I called later to ask my Dad how he liked it and he said it was like watching people around here talk. Request it via inter-library loan if your library doesn’t own a copy. I requested it and got a copy from the Terrebonne library system. There was no charge for this. Check the link out because it enables you to view a preview of the movie.

Creole language and a good movie
There are two great sites that teach Louisiana Créole and history: Learning Louisiana Creole and Pointe Coupée history. The blog is good source for learning the language. The Pointe Coupée site focuses mainly on the parish’s history but it does have an area to learn Creole. The labels Creole and Cajun are confusing here because many Creoles - black, white and multiracial - speak “Cajun French.” But is it Cajun French? Is the French language in Evangeline and Avoyelles Cajun French? I don’t know. Did the Rabalais, Bordelon, Vidrine, Fontenot French learn all of their French from the minority Jeansonne and Pitre Acadians? I doubt it. I’m not an expert on this but just basic knowledge of the area’s history and some common sense tells me that’s not possible.
