la vieille truie et sirop d’pétard

That’s the name of two other games my parents would play.  Well, Paw Paw told them about la vieille truie.  I guess that is the right word.  It sounds like Elmer Fudd saying “tree.”  It’s called the Old Sow and the players had sticks they used to put a used vegetable can into a hole they had dug.  I Googled that and saw it was an old game played a lot during the Great Depression.  The other game was a “shooter” game.  They used some sort of reed in which they placed a china ball.  They aimed it at someone or something and used a stick to shoot the china ball out.  My Dad said he thinks it was an "Elder Berry" reed.  He wasn’t sure.  And they didn’t know why it was called sirop (zero) or syrup bomb.

I had a great weekend.  I went with a friend to Fred’s, L’Anse Grise, Cajun Smokehouse and Le Festivale de la Viande Boucanee.  Talk about a good time!  But the festival was too hot.  We all sweated in that insane heat.  But the food samples given to us were good, music by Geno Delafose was good and opening ceremony was good.  And the beer was cold, so, it was all OK.
