My
Dad blogs. Well, no, because he doesn’t
put information he finds on the Internet.
But what he does is the same thing.
He collects interesting information about Evangeline Parish and
organizes it into a binder. He did this
on the Creole and Cajunization subjects and also on Evangeline Parish. He continues to do this. It’s a good hobby. He
also has several “books” on our Hébert and Guillory genealogy. I’m glad he did this. He did a lot when there
was no Internet. It’s work researching
family history even with the Internet. I
remember him and Mom bringing us kids along to cemeteries to write names down
and dates.
I
thought he was crazy. And he would go on
and on about us not being really Cajun. He
drilled that idea into our heads. But it
worked and now with the Internet you can find all sorts of information. I printed a lot of stuff for him and checked
out books from the library for him to read.
His “blogs” grow with information. I wish
one of our ancestors had written journals.
Reading a diary excerpt from the 1700s on a rainy Sunday afternoon would
be great. But it would have to be
translated from French, Spanish, German, Acadian, Native American, or Italian
into English. Reading one of their “blogs”
would tell us how they lived and thought way back.
