Le Nain Rouge, Cadillac and Detroit


I never heard of this folktale until I starting reading The Red Cedar by James LaForest.  The story basically explains how Detroit was cursed because Cadillac beat the crap out of a dwarf.  I love it.  Folklore is one of my favorite things.  And the story is mixed with history also.  Many people don’t think French when they see or hear about Detroit, Cadillac, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Maine and several other places but these places have a French heritage.  Check his blog out to learn more about the Michigan area French.  I’m hoping to find an Avoyelles Parish blog to read and a Pointe CoupĂ©e one also.  Hopefully they’ll have blogs that explore the other areas I mentioned.   Today looks nice and I’m heading to aux Village with a catin from Texas.  Hopefully the chevals will be running.  And tomorrow John laFleur and Brian Costello will be signing books in Washington.  I plan to go but I have to work in the morning in Eunice and on top of that I might have the big head and aluminum flu.  I must be allergic to Saturdays because that’s the only time I get sick like that.
